Akon City: Akon is set to be the first African to build a City with his own Currency and Power

Akon, the talented rapper and vocalist has finalised an agreement with Senegalese officials for the establishment of a model city to be named AKON CITY. The proposed city will have its own airport, solar power plants, and a crytocurrency (AKOIN).

The serial entrepreneur announced this on his Twitter page last night. He wrote "Just finalized the agreement for AKON CITY in Senegal. Looking forward to hosting you there in the future."

Akon rose to limelight in 2004 following the release of his first single 'Locked Up' from the debut album, 'Trouble'. He is the first solo artist to hold both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice.

He is also the CEO of Akon Lighting Africa, a project he started in 2014 with Samba Bathily and Thione Niang which aims to provide electricity via solar energy to poor African countries. He also owns a diamond mine in South Africa and has his own charity for underprivileged children called Konfidence Foundation.

Akon drew public criticism in 2017 for an onstage act which included simulated sex with 15-year-old at the Zen Nightclub in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
